Appropriately for the first post on this blog, I am profiling the Phoenix Schuetzen of Anaheim, California, a club in which a number of my friends are active. The club was founded in 1969 and has been going strong ever since. I was an active member from 1984 through 1997. As the membership has gotten older, the scale of activities has declined. They still shoot every Wednesday, and a youth auxiliary is active on weekends.
The Phoenix Schuetzen celebrate a Schuetzenfest every June, which includes the proclamation of the Schuetzen King for the coming twelve months. The Schuetzen King is the winner of a special match. In addition, the club has numerous social and sporting activities throughout the year.
The club uniform is a very traditional, with a green jacket, black trousers, and a green forester's hat. The jackets of long-time members are adorned with numerous medals and awards.
If you live in the Orange County or south LA county area, this club would be a good bet.
The facilities include an Olympic-caliber ten meter air rifle range and a private bar.
